With 57 entries from 23 talented artists, it’s no wonder that judges Sheila Gwaltney, Mark Hall, Gary Hess and Lois Tokarz had a very difficult time narrowing the winning entries for the Genuine Smithfield Banner Contest down to 10. In fact, they selected 11! The banner contest is a joint effort by Smithfield 2020, Smithfield & Isle of Wight CVB and the Arts Center @ 319 and is funded by the generosity of Smithfield 2020. The artists were challenged to create original art in any medium that reflects the Small-Town Southern Charm of Smithfield. The winning entries will be converted into banners that will be affixed to lamp posts throughout the Historic District in the latter half of 2014. "Mini-banner posters" of one entry from each artist will also be displayed in the windows of our downtown merchants when the final banners are installed.
Congratulations to all our winners and a “thank you!” to all the talented artists who submitted their work!
