Smithfield Arts Festival Poster Contest

In celebration of our first Smithfield Arts Festival, we’re holding a poster contest! The winning illustration will be featured on the 2020 Arts Festival Poster. There is no age limit and you do not have to be a resident of Smithfield or Isle of Wight County to enter. (The date of the Smithfield Arts Festival is Saturday, May 16.)

PRIZES:

$100 first place prize, $50 second place, $30 third place prize (No entry fee for the contest)

JUDGING CRITERIA:

Entries will be judged based how well the illustration captures the spirit and essence Smithfield and Isle of Wight County, as expressed through the area’s unique visual, culinary or performing arts. 

Please note!This is not a photography contest. Photographs will not be accepted. 

 

All participating artists will be invited to and recognized at the National Tourism Month Breakfast on Wednesday, May 13 at the Smithfield Center.

JUDGING CRITERIA:


• The judging criteria for the winning entries will be based on the illustrations that best captures the spirit and essence
Smithfield and Isle of Wight County, as expressed through the area’s unique visual, culinary or performing arts.

• Please note: This is not a photography contest. Photographs will not be accepted.


• Entries will be judged on overall artistic quality, promotional appeal, reproducibility and best expression of the theme.


CONTEST DETAILS:


• All mediums accepted, except photography.


• Only original art will be considered; reproductions are not eligible.


• You do not have to be a resident of Smithfield or Isle of Wight County to enter.


• There is no age limit for entry into the contest.


• All entries must be completed and suitable for reproduction.


• Submission must be able to be enlarged into poster format.


• The final printed poster size will be at 11” x 17” in a vertical format. Submitted artwork does not have to be this
exact size but should be proportionate and vertical format. Maximum size for paintings, collages, etc. is 24” x 36”.


• No logos or text may appear on the artwork, including the artists name. The artist’s signature may appear.


• Each artist may enter up to 5 works.


• The winning entry will be featured on the promotional poster for the 2020 Smithfield Arts Festival.


• Entries in the contest will be displayed at the Arts Center@319 on a date to be determined. Artists will be notified.


SUBMISSION:


• A completed and signed entry form must accompany the submitted artwork.


• Entries by artists under the age of 18 must include a signed parental permission form (found on page 3 of this document).


• Entries must be submitted in one (or more) of the following ways:


1. As a comment or post on the timeline of our Facebook page - Visit Smithfield VA -
including the hashtag #smithfieldartsfest, (entry form emailed) or...


2. Via email to ltokarz@isleofwightus.net, or…


3. Mailed or hand-delivered (along with the entry form) to the Smithfield Visitor Center,
Attn. Lois Tokarz, 319 Main Street, Smithfield VA 23430.


• Digital submissions are preferred. Digital entries must be high resolution (300 dpi) files in the JPG (jpeg) format. 3D
pieces must be digitally submitted via Facebook or email.


• Please name all digital entries using the following format: Name of the artist and the title of the artwork.
(example: Morning by Jane Doe)


• If the artwork contains distinguishable or recognizable faces, it is the responsibility of the artist to acquire permission
and to submit a photo release signed by each individual featured in the image (found on page 3 of this document).


• Submissions that contain content considered by the sponsoring organization as controversial or offensive will not be
accepted. The CVB reserves the right to refuse to display or accept any image for aesthetic or other reasons.


• Entry indicates participants agree to be bound by the terms of the photo contest.



RULES & TERMS:


• By entering the contest, artists grant the Smithfield & Isle of Wight CVB permission to use the submitted artwork for
publications, advertising, trade or any other lawful use. By entering, artists agree that their artwork can be used by
the CVB and/or displayed on their social media platforms and website(s).


• The artist, by entering, agrees to make no monetary or other claims against the CVB for the use of this artwork.


• Submissions remain the property of the artist and can be collected after the Arts Festival weekend at the Smithfield
Visitor Center. Unclaimed posters become property of Smithfield Tourism after one year.
