From 1948 to 1949, the Smithfield Terminal Line connected the meat-packing houses of Smithfield with the C&O Railway terminal in Newport News. Join us for this lecture where we will learn about the shortest railroad in Virginia, the logistics of this operation involving a mile of track, Alco 2-6-2T steam locomotive #6, a landing barge, reefer car floats and steam tugs.
