Smithfield is hosting an Arts Festival! Celebrate visual, performing, literary and culinary arts along Main Street in downtown Smithfield with a kids "Art on Wheels Parade", a juried art show, fine craft vendors, food, music, live performances and more on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

We will kick off the fest with an "Art on Wheels' Kids parade at 9:00 a.m. Line up on Main at the Cary Street intersection. Parade begins at 9 am and will be led by members of the SHS Packers Drumline. The parade proceeds down Main Street to the Smithfield Times lot for judging.

Join us for the Ribbon Cutting at 10 am for the new stage at 228 Main Street by the Smithfield Times in Main Street Square. 

Vendor Applications: for Juried Art, Fine Craft, Literary Authors and Culinary Vendors, available under the Photos, Applications & Menus tab above or call 757.357.5182.

Shuttle Pickups: 518 Main Street (former Little’s Market) and the Commuter Lot at the corner of Main and Route 10. Guests will be dropped off at the 300 block of Main Street & Cary Street and will run from 9 am to 5 pm.

Be sure to stop at the Schoolhouse Museum (across from Main Street Baptist Church) to check out the museum and vendors, including student art, quilts and gift baskets for sale!

Performing Artists:

Turners Turnings will demonstrate wood turning skills

Harvest Faire will offer demonstrations of sword fighting

Smithfield High School Jazz Band will perform on the new stage from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. & 10:30/10:45 - 11:30 a.m.

Derek Moore will perform on the new stage from 11:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. 

Smithfield Little Theatre takes the stage from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Smithfield High School Theatre Dept. students will perform the Legend of Sleepy Hollow in a one act show at Windsor Castle Park on May 20 at 7:30 p.m. under the leadership of instructor Sherilynn Castel. You can purchase tickets to the show during the Arts Festival, look for the SHS Theatre Dept. booth. Tickets for the performance will be available during the  near the new stage at 228 Main Street or at the gate prior to the show. Please arrive by 7:15 p.m. to get seated. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. Concessions will be for sale as well.

Literary Art:

Kimberly Holland, resident artist at the Art Center @319 Main Street and now, published author, will offer free story times under a tent next to the Art Center at 319 Main Street for children featuring her children's book, "The Adventures of Sam, Joe & Dr. Knucklehead, Best in the West" at 11:00 a.m., 12 noon, 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. Plus, all children that attend story time will have a chance to win a Wild West prize pack. 

Art Festival Story Walk

Haydens Lane, downtown Smithfield

Stroll down Haydens Lane (next to the Smithfield Gourmet Bakery) and read a fun and true story! Enjoy this boook about how art transformed a community. The story pages will be posted on signs along Haydens Lane. Follow the signs to read the story "Maybe Something Beautiful", How Art Transformed a Community, written by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell. No registration passport required for this story walk. Free admission. For more details call 757.357.2264.
