The Schoolhouse Museum is sponsoring in collaboration with actors Antonio D. Charity and Gina Blount Jones a three-day workshop titled “Acting, a Performing Art.”
This free after-school program is opened to youth ages 12-18 who are interested in learning more about acting and related fields. The workshop will explore the basics of acting and provide an opportunity to assess participants’ interest in additional learning experiences in this field of performing arts. It will be held at The Williams Center, in Main Street Baptist Church, Smithfield, Virginia, March 10-12 from 5:30 to 7 pm.
For more information contact:
Gina Blount Jones 757-810-4807 or Lansing Davis 267-738-1513
Participants will learn some basics of acting. Topics covered will include vocal techniques, sense memory, improvision, and script reading. Beyond this initial three-day session, SHM plans to offer additional sessions for participants, which will include more acting classes, public performance opportunities, field trips to the theatre, academic skills development as it relates to acting, and career planning and preparation activities.
The Smithfield Museum Foundation is a nonprofit (501c3) organization charged with operating the Schoolhouse Museum and its programs. Its mission is to preserve, conserve and interpret the history of African American education in Isle of Wight County during the first half of the 20th century, while serving as a focal point for learning about African American history and culture and being a catalyst for educational and cultural development through the implementation of various outreach programs. The Museum is open to the public at regularly scheduled hours, as well as by appointment.
