Baroque Brilliance - The Wren Masters in Concert
Now in their 19th season, the Wren masters will present a concert of Baroque music performed on recorder, baroque violin, viol da gamba and harpsichord. The program includes music by the astoundingly prolific Telemann, by Marin Marais, the viola da gamba player at the court of the Sun King, Louis XIV, and by the organ virtuoso Dieterich Buxtehude, whose music the young J S Bach so admired that he walked 250 miles to listen to him.
The program also includes a trio sonata that Bach liked so much he wrote it in at least three different versions; the Wren Masters will perform each of the four movements in a different configuration, fitting each of Bachs reworkings of the piece.
This project is supported in part by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency
