Nick Luccketti and Bly Straube of the James River Institute for Archaeology discuss recent research associated with Site 44IW0013, the 17th century Basses Choice/Giles Jones site.
Archaeology on the site took place in the late 1980s and early 1990s which yielded a diverse assemblage of English and European ceramics, weaponry and equine furniture suggesting that the site was occupied by an affluent planter in the period ca. 1625-1650. Recent analysis yields more clues about this early settlement offering a unique glimpse of life in early Virginia.
