Joseph Vaz, piano - A Tribute to Doris Gwaltney

Joseph is no stranger to Smithfield. He is the grandson of Atwill and the late Doris Gwaltney, and a former SAF Terrific Teen, who later returned to play a full recital.  

Sundays at Four was especially interested in Joseph performing music by Ed Bland on a unique program featuring Bland’s music, but the concert was cancelled because of COVID. Joseph and Ed Bland knew each other and collaborated.  

This recital will include gems of the piano literature by Beethoven and Brahms, French pieces by Debussy and Ravel, and music of Ed Bland. 

Joseph earned degrees from Indiana University and Cincinnati Conservatory in piano performance. He is completing  DMA. studies at CUNY Graduate Center with Julian Martin in New York City.
