Celebrate Constitution Week with the Colonel William Allen Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution!
Constitution Week is an American observance to commemorate the 1787 adoption of the United States Constitution. Constitution Week commemorates the formation and signing on September 17, 1787, of the United States Constitution and recognize all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become citizens.
SMITHFIELD FARMERS MARKET: Visit the chapter for information at the market on Saturday, Sept. 16.
ROCK HUNT: This annual hunt for patriotic, painted rocks in downtown Smithfield and Windsor Castle Park is fun for all. Kids who bring their rock to the Isle of Wight County Museum will win a prize. Look for rocks between Sept. 16 and 23.
RINGING OF THE BELLS: Beginning at 4 p.m. Sept. 17, there will be a mayoral proclamation and a reading of the Preamble to the Constitution at the 1750 Courthouse which will conclude with a ringing of the bells.
CHILDREN’S PROGRAM: At 11 a.m. Sept. 16, there will be a free program on James and Dolley Madison at the Isle of Wight County Museum.
DISPLAYS: From Sept. 15 to 23, look for Constitution displays at the Blackwater Regional Libraries.
