Boasting not one – BUT TWO – roller-style launches, it’s easy to explore the rich rivers, creeks, marshes, and wetlands of beautiful Smithfield and Isle of Wight County.

Nike Park offers a kayak launch FREE to the public and open during the park’s regular hours (8 a.m. until dark). The launch places you in the midst of all the natural beauty and twists and turns of Jones Creek, eventually connecting with the James River. Nike Park is located at 13036 Nike Park Road in Carrollton and is maintained by Isle of Wight County Parks and Recreation. The Parks and Recreation folks would like to remind users to take into consideration how long it will take to get back to the launch and load up because the park must be vacated by 8:00 p.m.

In downtown Smithfield kayaking is easy. The launch at Windsor Castle Park is open 365 days a year and there is no fee to use it. While the park no longer rents paddle boards, it now offers a convenient way to rent kayaks with its self-service kiosk. The hourly rate is $25 for 2 hours and includes an approved life jacket.

Paddle boarding in Isle of Wight and Smithfield Virginia is still available if you provide your own paddle board.

Using the kiosk is easy. First download the Rent.Fun app and create an account. Next, scan the code on the lock to unlock the kiosk and remove your kayak, paddles, and life jacket.
